The 2010 WFTDA Championships were hosted by the Windy City Rollers. What a great weekend of roller derby! Check out the Uproar website for photos, video, recaps and more!
Derby 4 All had a great time at this event doing fittings and on site plate mounting and enjoyed meeting skaters from around the world. We helped skaters with maintenance problems and talked non-stop about gear all three days. We need to give a special shout out to Joshua Christensen (aka Ua Better Play Nice) who put up with all the craziness surrounding vendor set up. Thank you Josh!
October 23, 2010 - 3rd Annual Rolling Along the River Tournament
Sioux City, Iowa
Two skaters from Team Derby 4 All skated in the 3rd Annual Rolling Along the River Tournament, hosted by the Sioux City Roller Dames. Bruce Knuckle and Dirty Larry both skated throughout the day for the Twin Cities Terrors, taking home the men's division championship trophy. Camel Toni and MEDUSA mostly worked the booth so the boys could skate. Some highlights from the women's division included a nail biting finish in the Fargo-Moorhead / Sioux City matchup and the Babe City Rollers playing their final game with only FIVE skaters! Congrats to everyone for this successful event!
October 8-10, 2010 - WFTDA South Central Regionals
Lincoln, Nebraska
After driving for a couple hours on Thursday evening, Derby 4 All did a quick interview with Derby Radio, and we landed in Lincoln at the Luxury Inn at about 2:30am (technically Friday I suppose). Quick note to anyone traveling to Lincoln - do not stay at the Luxury Inn!! It is dirty, creepy, and we didn't feel safe, but it was 2am and we needed to be to the venue by 7am so we sucked it up and slept. We'll never make the mistake of waiting too long to book the recommended hotel again . . . Oh, and there was a little bit of police evidence tape still on the door across the hall. Yeah - EVIDENCE TAPE! I am not making this up. I can't wait to write a review on hotels.com. . . Thankfully we upgraded to a Holiday Inn Express for the remainder of the trip.
The No Coast Derby Girls were really great hostesses and the Pershing Center is a great venue for roller derby. It was really nice for us to be set up somewhere where we were able to see the track! When you're stuck out in the hall in a vendor village, you feel really disconnected from the derby action. This was also one of the first events where none of Team Derby 4 All had to skate - which felt strange too!
Coming in to this event, we didn't know many of the South Central teams. It was really fun meeting new people from teams we didn't know and talking equipment with them, and of course it was fun to see a few familiar faces too. We were also really excited to have our new sign, created by Bruce Knuckle (Shane), lit up in the background! Oh and I can't forget to mention some of the amazing upsets from this tournament. Congratulations to No Coast, Nashville, and Kansas City for your big wins and congratulations to EVERYONE for your hard fought games. We were also very impressed with No Coast's home crowd!
Team Derby 4 All will see you all at the WFTDA Championships in Chicago!
September 25-26, 2010 - MNRG All-Stars Boot Camp
Saint Paul, Minnesota
After a very strong showing at the WFTDA North Central Regional tournament, the Minnesota RollerGirls All-Stars hosted a boot camp at the Legendary Roy Wilkens to help fund their (somewhat unexpected) trip to Chicago in November for the Championships. Derby 4 All really enjoyed seeing a ton of familiar faces from leagues around the state and surrounding states!
We were also lucky to be at an event so close to home (our storefront is about 15 minutes away from the Roy) so we didn't have to pack up the entire store like we usually do. We were also happy to help get people fitted properly for skates! Having skates that aren't the right size causes all kinds of problems when you skate, and it's really easy to order the wrong size if you haven't had a chance to try them on first. Both Camel Toni and MEDUSA admit that their first skates were way too big for them. Once you have skates that fit you right, you won't have as many problems with sliding, blistering, or lack of control. Do yourself a favor and get fitted before you buy!
September 10-12, 2010 - WFTDA North Central Regionals
Green Bay, Wisconsin
The Thunda on the Tundra was a blur! MEDUSA and Camel Toni skated for the North Star Supernovas, who had four games, so Dirty Larry and Bruce Knuckle were the ones mostly working the table. For the first time, we offered on site plate mounting so skaters could build their own package and walk away with new skates within an hour or two, and it was a hit!
Even though Vendor Village was in the back hallway, at least there was a big screen TV streaming the games live so we were able to watch a little derby between customers. Oh and we need to give a shout out to Derby Skinz - we can't wait to get our Derby 4 All custom Skinz and helmet panties!
Thank you PMI Entertainment and the Brewcity Bruisers for hosting this great event!
June 25-27, 2010 - East Coast Derby Extravaganza 2010 (ECDX)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
First of all, we want to thank Ger, Wijadi, Sammy and Marshmallow for driving our truck and trailer out to Philadelphia with all of our product! We couldn't have done it without you - and no, we didn't fall for your jokes along the way about wheels falling out onto the freeway. Very funny.
ECDX was by far the most exciting event that we have been at so far. We had a great location on the track where we could see the action and we were busy almost the entire time. We are always willing to share the knowledge we have about derby gear.
It was also a great event for us to learn from other vendors about displays. We picked up some ideas and our displays have been better at each new event we travel to. Also - the Philly Roller Girls really know how to host a large event. Thanks for making everything run so smoothly!
